Stellaris module system explained

In this week’s blog post, I would like to show you one of the many new systems in Stellaris 2.0. Modularity is an important part of this new version, as it will allow the player to fully customize his adventure.

First of all, where does this idea come from? Stellaris is a complete remake of the Beyond Earth mod, which I decided to stop working on because of the drama caused by the Ad Astra team with MrScautHD (the former owner of Beyond Earth). In BE, I was feeling that the upgrade system for the rocket was boring, because it was a simple 4-tier system without any ability to customize its appearance or any aspect individually. This is why we tried to implement a tier system back in BE 7.0, which was a complete failure. The focus in Stellaris 1.0 was to allow customization and upgradability, but the system was still limited and only for the rocket and the rover. Now, in Stellaris 2.0, we are finally bringing this system to the Space Suit!

New Engineering Station

The engineering station is used in Stellaris 2.0 for two different things: build the basic rocket and upgrade your stuff.

An important part of Stellaris 2.0 is accessibility and simplicity, this is why we added a brand new tab system for some of our GUIs, it will simplify some tasks by removing the need to have a machine for everything. We want to offer the best experience for players.

Same look, new functionality

This new Space Suit uses the current Jet Suit model, which will be removed as we no longer need two separate armor systems. It has a total of 18 available upgrades, split into 6 categories: oxygen, oil finder, diesel tank, hydrogen tank, jet and damage protection. New modules will come over time as we add new mechanics to the game.

And the vehicles?

As you already saw, we have done a complete redesign of our rocket visuals, we were using the same model as Beyond Earth, but Ad Astra also uses those models. We now have incredible new rockets with the ability to display their modules directly on the model! It will be easier than ever to know which rocket has some upgrades. As you know, Stellaris 2.0 will focus on the Moon only. Which means that the rocket upgrade system won’t be a big part of your journey. We are focusing on bringing the customization, but feature upgrades will come later. Some of them are already implemented and available in creative mode.

For the rover, which is not done yet, we won’t redo the model for the moment, it may come in a later update. But the upgrade will still be a big part of it in Stellaris 2.0. You’ll be able to increase the diesel capacity, the ability to use a better fuel type: hydrogen, control the speed, etc. Suggest ideas in the comments if you have an idea about an upgrade that you would like to see in the mod!

What’s next?

Those improvements are here to make the mod better. We will continue to work on improvements, maybe adding this system to other mechanics of the mod. We want to get your opinion about it. Leave a comment here or join the Discord server and we will take a look at every suggestion! Also, don’t forget to watch the incredible first teaser on YouTube if you haven’t already done so!
